Microsoft Autopilot Uses OpenClaw: What You Can Do Today

On September 25, 2026, Microsoft announced Autopilot, a new agent inside its Copilot service that can keep working between conversations. OpenClaw confirmed that Microsoft is building it on OpenClaw, the software people can also use to run their own agents. Microsoft's service is expanding to a private preview at the end of September, according to its announcement.
That relationship is simple to picture. OpenClaw supplies part of the machinery. Microsoft is building its own product around it for people using Copilot at work. The OpenClaw project says work from Microsoft contributors is also going back into the public software.
What the Microsoft agent does
Microsoft describes Autopilot as a digital teammate you give a name, a role and a goal. It can follow conversations, return to unfinished work and handle recurring tasks. For example, Microsoft's announcement describes an agent that helps organize a supplier review, prepares meetings and follows up with the people involved.
Microsoft says the agent lives in a company's Microsoft 365 environment, with its own identity, memory, computer and workspace. People will be able to reach it through services such as Teams and Outlook, according to Microsoft. Think of a teammate who can pick up a conversation where it stopped, even after you close your laptop.
This project began under another name. Microsoft introduced Scout in June and said it used OpenClaw technology. Microsoft's September announcement calls the service Autopilot.

Can you connect your own OpenClaw agent to Copilot today?
The practical answer is that Microsoft has announced Autopilot as a service inside Copilot and says it will expand to a private preview at the end of September. Microsoft's announcement gives no public setup path for linking an existing personal OpenClaw server to Autopilot. Using OpenClaw as the foundation of Microsoft's product does not by itself connect your agent to Copilot.
There is a separate route for people who want to talk to their own OpenClaw agent inside Microsoft Teams. The official OpenClaw Teams guide explains how to register an app, connect it to a reachable OpenClaw server and install that app in Teams. This gives you your OpenClaw agent in a Teams conversation. It is a setup for Teams, with several steps for an administrator. The guide does not describe it as access to Microsoft's Autopilot.

If you mainly want an agent of your own today, OpenClaw's documentation explains how to set one up and connect a chat service. You can start with a simple job, such as asking it to gather your morning notes, before adding more services. OneClickClaw offers a seven day trial of an OpenClaw server without a card. That route lets you use your own agent while Microsoft develops Autopilot.
What comes back to OpenClaw
The OpenClaw project's September 25 report describes contributions to checks for an agent's settings, work on a Windows app and changes to how everyday messages and scheduled work are handled. A settings check is like reading a checklist after changing the locks: it compares what the agent is allowed to use with the rules its operator chose.
The same OpenClaw report describes a check that can test whether a sample message reaches the intended agent. It also describes a change that puts a new request ahead of queued background work. These are improvements to the shared OpenClaw project, according to its maintainers. Each owner can check the release notes for the version running on their server to see which changes have arrived.
For a person reading this today, the choices are clear. Microsoft says Autopilot is heading into private preview. OpenClaw's Teams guide already describes a way to put your own agent in Teams with administrator setup. OneClickClaw's trial page offers a way to start using your own OpenClaw agent now.
